It's Compubookie Time
And.... discuss.
pikabuggy.com made the article
Also, are we passing on PHI in favor of somewhere else this year?
Did i miss something...."no spring free rolls"? Was this weather related or something?
The house is hosting a happy hour for the Alums at Docs, Friday 6pm.
I think (s)he meant no _abundance_ of spring free rolls. Looking at the sweepstakes site a few weeks ago, it looked like they actually had more weeks of rolls originally scheduled for the spring than I remember having (10 versus 8, one of the many benefits of having a pike as the sweepstakes chair), but talking to Bordick over the weekend, it sounded like they got weathered out of alot of them. There's more detail over at the forum on cmupikes.org, which everyone should go register for and read. JT, we've been Grove on Thursday night for like the last three years. PHI gets too damn packed now, in part because of the cmu alumni page that schedules a "Look who's here party" at 9 pm there.
The house is hosting a happy hour for the Alums at Docs, Friday 6pm. I believe it was Jim that hosted last year, but whatever Maybe instead of the are you coming to carnival thing, we should change it to what time are you coming. This could impact your answer JT.
Who writes this shit? Sounds like a fucking 10 year old wrote it. So anyway, who's picking Jimmy Steel and I up from the airport on Thursday?
Sounds like a job for the 28X.
Ryan is obviously hitting F5 about as frequently as I am right now.
jay frank blaise, when are you getting in? I get in from Boston at 7:45 with at least one other pike on my flight (Craig).
JT, can you find out the DG chair thing since you might have the closest (not even that close) tie to the situation
I think they meant "no free spring rolls," implying that the Chinese food community is cracking down on deepfried giveaways.
Just FYI, if you're reloading to see new comments, you can just hit the 'Latest Comments' or 'Comments(XX)' link for the story and it'll pull up all the appropriate comments, including any that were made since you refreshed. The count doesn't increment, but it will show them. If you're reloading for new stories, carry on.
Oh, and I could do without the anti-semitism from the 'bookie.
i do it the way you said BTH. Who could ever figure out what Bean is doing anyway?
Jimmy Stats and I get in 5:20 I think Philippe and Mark get in around 8. Maybe we should just pick up random people at the airport to split a cab into Oakland? I can't imagine that we'll be the only people from NYC going to Carnival on that flight.
I lurk here a ton but never post. I'm driving from NYC Wednesday night to make it to design comp. If anyone wants to split a ride, let me know.
Also this is my favorite compubookie yet.
Does anyone else think Compubookie looks different this year? Under Buggy Predictions Women they have PiKA A listed as 2nd and 7th and Fringe A listed as 3rd and 8th
I'm pretty sure they accidentally ran the Women's and Men's predictions together... and compubookie looks as hacked together as usual.
I've looked in all of the logical places but can't find the heat schedule. If anyone has that, please email it to me or post it so I can estimate what times to try to tune in on Friday to CMU TV. Bonus points will be awarded if you can tell me the buggies with each team.
I can't remember if we kept that stuff private or not, but chairman Shane has posted the Pika teams, heats, and lanes info in the forums on cmupikes.org, which is password protected, and I don't want to be the one who declassifies it if it's not supposed to be. Any Pike can register and see it. Marissa, I'll email it to you.
I already got them. Thanks though.
Doesn't look like Zeus is rolling this year... :(
So for those of you who don't check pikabuggy.com, Decker just posted the comment of the century. I encourage you to check it out: http://pikabuggy.com/main.php?g2_view=comment.Sho...
jim, bring money for the jukebox
yeah. I have a hard time not commenting over there because the other comments are so ridiculous.
Wood has made one request to the alums to not give them too much "locker room material," but, yeah, right with you on that one Dave, and even moreso with you on the sentiment behind doing it.
Well to be fair, Decker trained very hard for buggy and is understandably upset.
Naj, I'm thinking Journey or Foreigner this time. Maybe Air Supply. Although Meatloaf may prove irresistible.
Well to be fair, Decker trained very hard for buggy and is understandably upset. Hey, I put a lot of time into making world class Greek Sings, freeing up other resources to concentrate on buggy. It's called specialization. I deserve at least as much credit as Statile, Hendrix, or Joiner for PiKA buggy's success...
Actually, our success was directly tied to the success of our parties / mixers that year. BTW, if anyone somehow still has that drunken rambling by yours truly from sometime during 1999-2000, i'd love to re-read it.
You may be out of luck, JT. We would never hold on to an old email that might provide a lifetime of embarrassment for the sender and entertainment for the recipients. Right, Rob and Ravi? Decker brings up a good point. Isn't he just demonstrating how the house benefitted from economies of scale?
Decker, you just totally f*cked yourself by not including Mayes in your last post. I can feel the wrath coming. Also, you are correct. I remember thinking in '97 and '98, " Dammit, if only we didn't spend so much time on Greek Sing, we could've won!!"
I'm just upset i wasn't included as a part of the decker Greek sing mafia.
Jim, just for you, I just posted another gem over on pikabuggy.com. And it definitely doesn't qualify as locker room material.
If it makes you feel better, you were part of the pong phenomenon "Team Greek Sing" (along with JT and myself) after the show in 1999, when I coined my Greek Sing mantra of "Nothing beats a second place trophy!"
because i was co chair, ass. don't you remember the thanksgiving before when we watched musicals, just the two of us, in your parent's home. And then you took me to that gay bar. I do.
you guys are focusing on the wrong thing. remember when JT"s voice cracked. man that was funny
not as good as your improv, "holy shit i'm on front stage" pointy dance you did the following year.
dude that was totally planned out in every practice. it might not have been any good, but it was certainly not improv. actually hitting joiner? now that was improv
God, so funny... I had forgotten about the voice crack! That said, how could you even pick it out over Eugene "all thumbs" Kim on the piano? I still have no idea how we made it through that number... not only were all vocals / lines acapella, you had to acapella over the sound of random piano notes. Oh, and we were missing our all-star percussion section.
Oh, Decker, priceless over there. And unless I've missed something, how has no one reminded everyone over there of the fact that a Beta (their president I think) punched Fringe's hill 1 pusher in the nose the night before races one year, forcing him to wear a large Geraldo-style bandage while pushing?
This is great. Only I could take a buggy thread and shift the focus to Greek Sing. And yeah, Shasta on the piano. I can't believe he thought doing his homework was more important that practicing on the piano.
Not to shift too far off topic, but Jim, you can put your money away. It's Pittsburgh. I can count on one hand the number of bars I've been to that haven't busted out that ol' chestnut about a small towned girl, who probably had the clap, and her lonely, clap-filled world, on one hand. They play it before Penguins games now, in lieu of the National Anthem. Also, barring bad weather and lack of interest, I'm volunteering my driveway for pre-happy hour ponging Friday afternoon.
bean, they already brought up the "getting punched in the face" thing. though, they were calling it one of the disadvantages of being an independent. which is just batshit logic.
derek, roll the t.v. out to the driveway so we can pong and play drinking mitchell at the same time.
I thought "getting punched in the face" was a disadvantage of being a complete fuckwad.
fringe dot org has posted all of CMUTV's videos of races from 05, 06, and 07. As they mention on the page, the audio is a little off. I've also noticed that the links for a given heat might actually be for the heat before or after, but overall very neat stuff. http://www.fringe.org/Racing/RacedayVids.php
Rather than working I have been surfing the internet and somehow stumbled across a mention of turkeys(!) on the course during rolls a couple weekends back. I guess this is similar to Boston's problem with wild turkeys. Does anyone else know about this. For some reason the idea cracks me up but I guess thats because I don't have to deal with the beasts.
You mean they weren't just referring to Sig Nu? ba-dum-snick
We have lots of turkeys up here. There is a rather large group that hangs out near my house.
Trivia question: What is the name for a group of Turkeys?
Cry ofted used on imageboards when a 'noob' posts (usually an image post). It is an exclamation requesting an image of a pari of breasts be posted or the original poster should "GTFO" (get the fuck out). A derivation of the phrase: balls touching or gtfo is often heard when an image depicted gay men is posted on 4chan.org
odd...I was under the impression that images depicting 'gay men' where the only kind posted on 4chan.
i'm just glad i googled before going to the link. learned that lesson with the meatspin debacle.
I would like to point out to everyone that the link Bean posted contains the alumni exhibition heat from '05. Thats just pure hilarity.
that is a hell of a hill three pick up
In watching the 2005 exhibition heat, i think the guy called Joiner bald...old guys should stay old.
i just assumed he knew that joiner shaved his chocha.
I'm pretty sure RJ fed that line to the radio guy.
GLORY DAYS!!!!...........UMM UMM UMMMM GLORY DAYS!!! I did not feed that line. I wish I had though I'm really disappointed you couldn’t hear me heckling you guys. I guess I'm not nearly as loud as I thought I was
