Man, 22, found dead at Carnegie Mellon frat house

From Brick and Ryan: I just heard about this via family living in Pittsburgh.

The man was found Sunday afternoon by one of the friend's roommates at the Pi Kappa Alpha house.

Pittsburgh people - can you keep us updated?

So are we all bringing our pickup trucks/SUVs to cart away the basement stuff? I don't think the house will survive this.

Seems likely to be the demise of the house regardless of the specifics. Wow. Really horrible news for many reasons.

I think it was in 94 but another student died in a fraternity house. Can't remember whether or not they lasted. Seems like in this day and age though the house will be lost.

I would actually be surprised if they got the boot. This dude was a non-member and it happened over Spring Break while school wasn't even in session. How can you penalize the chapter for that?

He was also 22 and of legal drinking age. But somehow I think they'll find a reason to get rid of the charter.

Dave, I wouldn't expect CMU to use the "reasonable man" theory... but let's hope so.

Depending on where you are reading/watching, he was either 22 or 20 (in one article, he was both).

I'll be curious to see what the whole spring break piece to this thing brings. Back when the house was good, nobody was around that first weekend of spring break

Yeah and that's a major problem. According to the University he was born in 87 so there's that. Those two years make a big difference in the potential impact. But the bottom line is that the whole thing is just a shame.

i agree with jay's analysis. it's terrible for everyone involved. also, a search on his name brought this up.

however, i think the impact of those 2 years will only matter as it pertains to potential criminal prosecution. there are no such restraints with civil litigation or school action

It does get confusing because most 22 year old people aren't still in school as undergrads... oh wait.

Such a shame...

What I think we know:
- He was 22 yrs old
- CMU is on Spring Break
- Not a house sponsored / organized event
- Ex CMU student
- If you are of age, you are permitted to drink in CMU dorms / fraternities

It's a terrible tragedy that this happened at all... that said, it seems that there is a glimmer of hope that Pika could be salvaged. I hope the house makes it through and that they can do something truly special in his name.

Do we put his age in the 'known' category? Still seems like that piece is up in the air. Maybe because it might be the most crucial piece of evidence (as far as potentially saving the house), it really bothers me it isn't known. I'm still sticking with the fact that CMU would like to get rid of houses over projectile marshmallows, it is going to jump at using this as a chance to do it.

I had no idea about the of age drinking rule.

It does seem like they'll find a reason to try and get rid of them. Especially since the witness accounts have him drinking in the house. I think national doesn't want drinking in the house in any capacity regardless of the drinking age.

As for his age, it would make sense that if he became a brother in 2007-08 at a potential age of 18, then he would be 20 now. I'm not sure why CMU hasn't stepped forward to clear this up. While national is properly run organization, it's not the hall of records. And paperwork sent in (if handwritten) could easily be entered improperly.

Guys, from his facebook page

Born in 1987. Not sure why he'd lie about that.
