Program notes
If you've got a lot of time to kill, check out The Wire on DVD. The fifth season was pretty weak compared to the first four, but it's a great show. If you can't get enough violence and profanity (and want to watch a great show), check out Deadwood on DVD. Unfortunately it just ends after three (epic) seasons. If they ever spin off one of the characters, can I recommend Dan? Demetri Martin's back on Comedy Central tonight. He's the thinking hipster's Andy Samberg. Or something. Parks and Recreation has moved from 'Pretty Terrible' to 'Pretty Funny' this year, and as Jim pointed out, it's still got a lot of potential. How I Met Your Mother is back on track and pretty damn entertaining. Big Bang Theory was making jokes about Leibniz a few episodes ago. How can you not love it? -hendred
And if you can't get enough gratuitous nudity, apparently you should check out "Underbelly", as I found out last night on DirecTV's 101 channel after Friday Night Lights. And yeah, I'm glad I stuck with Parks and Recreation on the DVR.
Parks has been pretty good, despite Amy Poehler's character's attempt to suck the entertainment out of it, like some sort of evil funny-sponge. It helps that Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) steals every scene he's in and that the Mark-Ann relationship seems more realistic than your average tv relationship. Also, using the funniest person on the show (he wrote Pootie Tang for christ's sake) as a dim-witted straight man/cop was a master stroke. Also, Community is awesome too. While NBC is completely falling apart, they show the only three shows (those two and Chuck) I watch on network TV, unless you want to count "Sports" as a show.
I'll second community. It's got the from Derrick on there, who btw, put out a hilarious movie.
I couldn't get into Community. I guess I watch The Soup too much and was expecting that Joel McHale to show up. I'll throw in a vote for Modern Family. Its been consistent with the Funny, but I just wish they would tone down the "learning moment" that always happens in each episode. If Seinfeld taught me anything, its that a show is way funnier without any Hugs and Learning.
I'd like to throw in a vote to end the saying "The Funny." Makes me feel stabby.
