Also, does anyone understand the spam that's all random letters?

Follow up argument seed Thu Mar 1 2007

This is all from ab: Gore says media miss climate message

I like to base decisions on science and fact. I use consensus for soft-fuzzy topics, like fashion sense or who has the nicest ass. I am amused by the idea that we lay out science via consensus. It's either opinion or fact. Not both. It's not by consensus that we accept that the earth is a spheroid.

Super Duper Thu Mar 1 2007

Also all from ab: Democrats aim to tack pet spending projects onto Iraq bill

This is what I call efficiency and ethics. Why are all politicians Dirtbags? I may have to start a revolution or just sit here and blow a gasket.

Does anyone know how to be a parent? Thu Mar 1 2007

Rich Yuppies are increasingly letting their kids sleep with them.

CHendrix sent this my way. This kind of crap drives me insane. Why the hell are parents afraid to be parents? Here's a thought: tell your little rugrat to get the fuck out of your bed.

I love the $400/hr sleep consultants.

Al Gore circa 2002 Thu Mar 1 2007

Kerry calls down the thunder on a Swift Boat Veterans for "Truth" contributor.

I can't believe how that guy set himself up for a reaming. And how in the hell do you contribute 50k and not know who asked for it and what it's going to? I don't care how much cash you have.

If Jaiman were a surfer this is how it'd look Thu Mar 1 2007

From rcr: This remote control device is infinitely excellent.

Where is Steve-O and Party Boy? Fri Mar 2 2007

Round round, get around, I get around... Fri Mar 2 2007

From will: The latest teacher on student action... but this teacher gets around (like a record)... at least five young men, taking place from last December to "this month".

Vilas had the assist on this one.

News For Skeptics Fri Mar 2 2007

Friday Holy Jebus! Fri Mar 2 2007

RS6 crash that the driver walked away from. Uhhhh.... wow.

Momentary difficult time suck Sat Mar 3 2007

Name the 53 African countries in 10 minutes. Good lord is this hard. It would also help if they'd quit changing their names, but still. If you don't want to wait the 10 minutes, just view the source. Also, the spelling turns out to be a real problem.

New Rule Sun Mar 4 2007

Insane... Sun Mar 4 2007

From JSW: I don't know if this guy is insane or just has huge balls.

Jaime Pierre goes huge

I've seen this clip a couple times. a) He doesn't ski away, he just make a crater. So this is useless. 2) Doing this so I think about Jesus has got to be the dumbest thing ever.

In other news, Terje Haakonsen went 32 ft. out of a quarterpipe. (And rode away. Backwards.) There's another angle on the March 3rd news here.

Can I charge the ticket? Sun Mar 4 2007

How can you afford something like this, Ned? I mean, I get your mail once in a while, and you make only $27 a week more than I do. -Homer via ed

Ask the bhendrix readership: Home Economics Tue Mar 6 2007

This is from jm: Here's my scandal. I've trying to figure out what 1/3 of a cup (a serving size) of peas is. I've used the 1/3 of a cup measuring cup, which I know is a volume measure. The bag of peas says there are 7 servings in the bag. However, it appears that it is more likely twice that number of servings. Is there some standard rule to follow when measuring dry ingredients that aren't flower or sugar? Google has been little help.

Sri makes a rare appearance on bhendrix.com Tue Mar 6 2007

From boot:

Did anyone know there's a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie coming out on the 23rd? And that Patrick Stewart has a voice-role in it?

I think this may be one of a handful of movies I want to watch less than "wild hogs"

Kinda like the 5th Element, but not as hot Tue Mar 6 2007

From jm: Sea Squirt can regenerate itself from just on tiny vessel. This is a little more advanced than the starfish which regrows a lost limb or two. This may lead to future medical breakthrough where Decker is able to regrow his "game." Blum was not available for comment.

If anyone can explain the last two sentences, please send me an email. Update Got it. Merci.-ed

Glad it wasn't an eagle? Tue Mar 6 2007

From miolla: Seagull hits car doing 180 MPH Compliments of Geekologie. Looks like fun.

The robotic parking garage. Includes video.

Great googly-moogly Tue Mar 6 2007

620 HP Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7s to 60 and 12.2 in the 1/4. I have serious doubts as to the durability of the drivetrain, but what do I know?

It’s quicker than every BMW M product as well as all Mercedes AMGs other than the 604-hp SL65. Bye-bye, Audi S6, Chevy Corvette, Porsche 911 S, and Lamborghini Gallardo. The 4831-pound Jeep is just a half-second slower than the two paragons of production-car performance, the 911 Turbo and the Corvette Z06.

The Evolution of the need for religion. Really long and interesting article from the NYT. CHendrix sent this my way.

Aspiring to watch a TV show? Thu Mar 8 2007

Top 20 TV shows ranked by median viewer income. The bit about Scrubs is pretty interesting.

On a side note, I highly recommend both 30 Rock and Friday Night Lights. 30 Rock is by far the funniest show on TV right now. At least until Entourage comes back.

On another side note, the Sarah Silverman show is the biggest waste of a half hour ever. Please make it stop.

Bored? Thu Mar 8 2007

From bw: Cheerleaders.

I can only assume this is Junior Oof's (joof) girlfriend. -ed

Continuing with the theme of 'credibility' from recent posts and threads Thu Mar 8 2007

From Bean: Wikipedia will ask some writers to share real names.

To me, this would be good, as would the next step of requiring all submitters to identify themselves. But a few guys recently informed me that who is doing the talking doesn't really matter, so maybe this isn't that important.

And if wikipedia doesn't do it for you, there's always Conservapedia. -ed

Time suck, without the brain Mon Mar 12 2007

From jm: Speed solitaire It's pretty slow at first, but will pick up after a while. My bests are level 71, with around 400K. Not recommended for nipple or touchpad play.

This is definitely easier the less you think about it. -ed

I'm sure he was just concerned with the children's civil liberties... Mon Mar 12 2007

From decker: Charles Rust-Tierney, a former president of the Virginia ACLU, was allegedly caught downloading child pornography with "images that included the sexual torture of children, set to a song by the band Nine Inch Nails" on his 10-year-old son's computer.

Hippie.

He was also a Little League, soccer, and football coach. Surprisingly, he doesn't seem to be a priest or scoutmaster also. Maybe it will be found that his son is the one who downloaded the porn, but until then, it's filed under DB.

Trekkies gone postal Mon Mar 12 2007

From Leon: Mailboxes turn into R2D2.

Not sure if the Trekkie crack from Leon was intentional. -ed

So what are the odds he's got Asperger's or something? Mon Mar 12 2007

A Rodney Mullen bio video. Parts II and III are also there. I think I've posted a fair bit of the footage they show, but it's entertaining as hell to listen to him explain how he does things and others explain how ridiculous he is.

FWIW, the Jason Lee Jamie Thomas mentions is the actor guy.

Sorry about the blown link. -ed

I bookmarked this earlier today to post for polega. Great minds think alike. -ed

Update: I realized I forgot to credit boot with this one. Sorry boot.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs calls homersexuality immoral. He goes on to equate it with adultery between a soldier and another soldier's wife. I'm at a loss to figure out why he would go out and stir the pot like this.

Self-balancing one-wheel skateboard. This kicks the crap out of the Segway.

What a Surprise... Wed Mar 14 2007

Al Gore exaggerated the science community's confidence in the global warming theory that he presents in "An Inconvenient Truth." It's actually a little disgusting that he chose the word "truth" for the title now that I think about it. Maybe "An Inconvenient Theory" would've been more appropriate.

From Decker via Jane.

Counterpoint and counterpoint II. As always, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. -ed

Dudes Staring at Dudes' Crotches Wed Mar 14 2007

A new take on the bhendrix photo gallery hits. From Brick.

I'm rarely pro-abortion, but this MF'er is an example... Wed Mar 14 2007

Nickell asks: Can we execute kids? Only the really bad ones? No lengthy trial, no appeals, just, "Well sport, you're a certified fuck-up, and you'll likely remain that way, just as frustrated with this society as it is with you. So before you really cause some damage we're gonna blow your damn head off, with a 12 gauge. Give Satan a 'what's up'."

Wow. The anti-christ made it to CNN. Wed Mar 14 2007

Producer of Wild Hogs and director of Norbit ignores critics. Most likely because they're standing outside his house with pitchforks and torches.

Obvious post. Wed Mar 14 2007

Some new Transformers pics. I'm really, really trying not to get my hopes up. Apaprently the first cut was 'R', and they had to 'fight' to get a PG-13.

Somebody Gonna Get Pregnant! Thu Mar 15 2007

From jm: Tracy Morgan on "Texas, El Paso" local news. Please watch the video. He ain't got biscuits, he's got a loaf of bread. Also, you should consider reading The Hater blog.

I just about fell out of my chair when I saw this. Classic. Just classic. -ed

FYI... Fri Mar 16 2007

A comparison of generic prescription drugs finds huge disparity. They compare generic Prozac and find it's over $100 at Walgreens, CVS, and Eckerd, but $15 and $12 at Sam's and Costco. Somebody in the comments mentions the Walmart $4 generic deal as well with a link to the list of drugs covered there.

That data will knock you on your ass Sun Mar 18 2007

A Prof from Sweden shows off his data visualization tool and the underlying data. 20 minute google video. I realize this sounds about as exciting as paint drying, but it's really pretty amazing stuff. The data he presents and their ability to change perceptions is astounding. They should give him a couple minutes on the news every night. If you've got 20 minutes, this is a good way to spend it.

And Google just bought the software.

Update Online demo you can play with. Background on the Google purchase. The software homepage. Obligatory Slashdot article/discussion.

PSA Wed Mar 21 2007

If you're sitting at your computer thinking "Man, I wish my computer would grind to a complete halt for the next 15 minutes or so", you're in luck. Just tell iTunes (and Quicktime) to update itself. After downloading 65 megs of files, you'll be freezing applications in no time. As an added bonus, it'll ask to restart your computer like it's 1999 again.

In other news, Firefox downloaded its own update and took about 20 seconds to install it. uTorrent updates faster than I can read the dialog box.

Update

Joy.

Males taking their wife's last name when marrying. Woman wants to keep her name? Groovy. Want to hyphenate the thing? Ok. But if you find yourself doing this or thinking of doing this, grab your balls off the mantel and run. Don't think, just run.

Rogan, by knockout, in the 1st Thu Mar 22 2007

From bw: I think Carlos Mancia sucks...Joe Rogan calls him out...sweet.

NSFW due to language.

This has been around for a little while. I think at least Rogan got banned from the Comedy Store, if not Mencia as well. Additional clips of Mencia stealing shit keep popping up on digg. I never knew much about rogan, but there's a couple fo funny clips of him owning hecklers on youtube. And he had that sweet car built on Rides. -ed

Bring back the Gladiators... Thu Mar 22 2007

From oof: Watch as two hockey players duke it out. On a tangential note, I don't really understand how this is a sport, or rather why fighting is a part of this sport. Can someone please explain it to me?

A neck can only twist so far, twist it just a hair more and the body says hey i'll take it from here, cuz obviously you dont know what your doing.

The vast majority of my high school hockey team were thugs who liked to fight - ice or no ice. Fans like it for the same reason they like NASCAR crashes. Violence and chaos sells. -ed

Mice Describe New Gene as "Trippy" Fri Mar 23 2007

From decker: Scientists add a human gene to mice to allow them to sense the red part of the light spectrum. Mice are apparently red-green color blind. These scientists were able to change this, and the significance is that the mice's brains seem to be able to immediately perceive the new colors, meaning that their brains (and presumably the brains of our human ancestors who first had the genetic mutation for the red cones tens of millions of years ago) were pre-wired for this. The scientists also hope that this can be used to correct color blindness in humans, like that character from Little Miss Sunshine.

Google Solves a Murder Fri Mar 23 2007

From decker: A Woman googled "How to Commit Murder" ten days before murdering her husband. She also searched information about gun laws and poisons. And she obtained a subscription for a sedative from the doctor she was cheating with. Google didn't actually solve the murder; a computer forensics specialist did.

Note to Mayes: Stop googling "How to rape dudes." That one might come back to bite you.

Link stolen from the freakonomics blog.

Planet Earth Mon Mar 26 2007

From oof: I would highly recommend that you watch Discovery Channel's documentary Planet Earth, particularly if you have an HDTV. It is very entertaining and visually astounding. The one knock against it is that narrator, Sigourney Weaver, constantly reminds you how unique and revolutionary the camera work is. You can watch several clips online to whet your appetite. My personal favorite, so far, is about the Birds of Paradise under the Planet Earth Highlights tab. The last 10 seconds show the trippiest animal I have ever seen.

D. II Champtionship Game Mon Mar 26 2007

From JT: I'm not sure how this flew under the radar... or rather how I missed the story. The sports guy directed me to the link:

Scroll down to the "Division 2 championship game" link. Also, to add to the story, keep in mind that the losing team had won 50 straight games.

More Scientists B*tching Mon Mar 26 2007

From jm: Expensive medical treatment found to not be the most effective. Apparently using drugs, most of which are in the generic part of their lifecycle, is just as effective as a $40K angioplasty procedure, both in terms of comfort and mortality (in a non-emergency basis). Not surprising, doctors who perform those operations and companies which make the stents have their own truth. This is a surprisingly deep article from cnn.

On a side note, this is the latest in a string of well-formatted submissions. Thanks to all. -ed

Maybe There Was Mayo On The Steering Wheel Wed Mar 28 2007

From decker: Comeidan Eddie Griffin wrecked a Ferrari Enzo during practice for a charity race to promote an upcoming film.

"Undercover Brother's good at karate and all the rest of that, but the brother can't drive," Griffin, referring to one his past films, said after the accident.

It's a little sad that he still refers to himself as a character from a mediocre movie from five years ago.

JT sent along a video clip as well. Bw had the assist and pointed out there were only 400 of these made. One went to the Wall Street douche bag's P4/5, the Swedish criminal ripped another in half, and there's several others on wrecked exotics. Also, I think the movie they're talking about includes footage of the complete destruction of a Carrera GT. -ed
