Flying Neck Dislocation Mon Apr 9 2007

This makes me cringe more than it makes me laugh, but here is a compilation of various botched wrestling moves. I didn't watch long enough to see if they had a clip of Owen "The Hitman" Hart falling from the rafters of an arena. Thanks Will.

Best Video Game Covers Mon Apr 9 2007

I'm not sure that you should call these the best covers ever, but they are certainly hilarious. My personal favorite is on the bottom of page 3. How many did you own (I'm on 3)? Thanks to Will.

Bill Brasky Videos Mon Apr 9 2007

Maybe I've been in the dark for a wihle, but I haven't seen any of these before. Thanks to BILL BRASKY(Will)!

MLB's all Overpaid team Mon Apr 9 2007

The Pirates seems to make every crappy list for MLB, even when it's associated with paying players lots of money. In this case, they're paying a player who doesn't play for them any more a lot of money. Read on to see the MLB all-overpaid team... from Will.

Sidenote - How about Giambi making 1 mil more than A-Rod this year?

Second Sidenote - Anyone who legitimately argues against a baseball salary cap is a moron

Foos - The Movie Mon Apr 9 2007

Mayes sent in a link to Foos, a movie about foosball. I'd like to see if they properly document the Hendrix-A or the Baseball. No word on an appendix of every victim of a 10-0 chug loss.

Time Suck For the Forseeable Future Mon Apr 9 2007

Hey, it's JT - This is DailyTimeSuck.com... I wanted to note a few things:

1. Obviously, this looks a LOT like bhendrix.com. That's because BTH was very gracious and basically handed me all of the code that he spent the last 5 years developing. A big thanks needs to go to him and buy him a beer at Carnival if you get a chance.

2. The site will change in the future... my goal was to get something up and running ASAP. Please feel free to send in suggestions.

3. You may notice that some things are missing (like the image gallery). I may be able to get access to the old archives, but I also might just try to hook a new image gallery into the site. Take some pics at carnival and we'll figure out how to handle things at that point.

4. I may put a few Google Ads on the site and donate any clickthrough proceeds to PiKA... any comments on this?

Something That May Interest Only Me... Mon Apr 9 2007

Super Paper Mario comes out this week for the Wii. It's half 2D and half 3d and you need to switch back and forth during gameplay to explore the boards. It's kinda hard to visualize how cool the feature is without looking at gameplay footage, so click the link and view a couple of the videos on the page. -JT

Frat Boy Beer Pong Mon Apr 9 2007

All of your favorites are here. You have that pledge who constantly popped his pink collar. The urban white guy. And of course, Ballsac. My only real complain is that it isn't clear if you are missing long/short. It will be worth your time to get through at least one level. -jm

How AC/DC Was Meant to be Sung Tue Apr 10 2007

Celine Dion and some other annoying "diva" sing You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC... it's worth watching only for Celine's awesome dancing. -JT

Because these aren't obvious Tue Apr 10 2007

13 shows that never should have been cancelled. I could give a rat's ass about most of these, but the way he goes on and on about Arrested Development should earn him a punch in the face. It's a somewhat funny show, but calling it the funniest show ever is ridiculous. Then he throws in the standard AD fan dig - if you don't like it you're stupid. Classic. Oh yea, and Sports Night's there. - From the Godfather of bhendrix.com

Xtreme Bargains Tue Apr 10 2007

WhiskeyMilitia.com Steep and Cheap for the action sports set. My bank account is crying. - From BHendrix

The Crime and Incident Reports are still funny... Wed Apr 11 2007

..and prove that CMU students are afraid of black people.

Suspicious Person April 1, 2007 at 10:48 p.m.

A student reported being followed by a black male as the student walked into Wean Hall. The actor was described as wearing a red shirt. University Police arrived on the scene and the area was checked and cleared.

Note: Yes, I found this while searching thetartan.org for this year's Compubookie post - JT

Japanese TV = Awesome Wed Apr 11 2007

So this 34 year old fisherman is only the 2nd contestant out of over 500 total contestants to complete this Ninja Warrior obstacle course. This is like Legends of the Hidden Temple on strawberry flavored, crack laced meth. Thanks to BHendrix for the link.

Bonus link - Here is an amazingly detailed wiki page all about Legends of the Hidden Temple... quite possibly the best kids show ever created. - JT

Sid the Kid... Wed Apr 11 2007

So, with the changing of the guard, I will keep tracking some things that you might not care about (Le Tour de France, etc.) while adding some other things that you really might not care about (like this link). Today at 7pm, the puck drops for the Pens first playoff series in over 5 years, and even if you do not like hockey I suggest that you give this series a look. It will make you a hockey fan. - JT

Learning something on the Interweb? That's Unpossible. Thu Apr 12 2007

Steve Levitt over at Freakanomics (whose hog I've chomped on numerous occasions back when the site was good) took a look at a published econ paper and thought there was something wrong with it. The paper found that as beer price increases, there is a correlated decrease in violence.

The initial challenge to figure it out.

The answer.

Additional thoughts and info.

If you haven't done so already, I'd highly recommend throwing their feed on your RSS list. The Levitt entries are usually more interesting than the Dubners, but they're both good. - All from hendrix

It Has Graphs and 'Music', Maybe Mayes Will Like It Thu Apr 12 2007

A graphical dissertation on what I can only assume is Ryan Jackson's new jam, 'This is Why I'm Hot' by the poet laureate Sean Mims.

For those of you who don't know, the refrain of this excellent song goes something like:

This is why I'm hot,
this is why I'm hot,
this is why this is why this is why i'm hot,
I'm hot 'cause i'm fly,
you ain't 'cause you're not,
this is why this is why this is why i'm hot.

Add SDSU to the list of schools to attend in my next life Thu Apr 12 2007

SDSU had an "Official Undie Run." That's right. Hot, drunk girls running in their underwear. And I'm pretty sure none of them were ECEs. If you are on facebook, I highly encourage you to find the group "SDSU Official Undie Run" and take a look around the photos - there are 257 of them. - decker

New Zealand is filling extinct volcanos with human waste. And then turning them into parks. If there is a God, and he has a sense of humor, the first volcano will erupt as soon as it is filled. That counts as a prayer. Amen. - decker

At least 20 killed in Virginia Tech shooting Mon Apr 16 2007

"It was one of the worst shootings on a university campus in the United States since Charles Whitman went to top of the tower in the middle of the University of Texas campus in Austin, Texas, on Aug. 1, 1966, and opened fire on people 27 stories below. He killed 15 people, including his mother and wife the night before, and wounded 31 others."

Here's the link. Horrible news.... I think it just happened, so more details should follow soon. Thanks to Brick for this one.

Why did the hipster cross the road? Mon Apr 16 2007

My favorite brunette, Leslie Feist, has a new album coming out May 1. I believe this would be her major label debut, so you might be bombarded with this one, and this one. Both feature some of the best choreography not involving charper as the anchor on the wave, and as always, her to-die-for voice.

To tell you that they heard of you before you sold out. -jm

A couple of dailytimesuckers will be running the Boston Marathon on Monday, so wish Liz Pino, Katie Minardo, and Sean Holman luck... they will be running in the rain on a 45 degree day, so they can use all the luck they can get!

You can follow them online at www.bostonmarathon.com. Katie's bibb number is 23178, but I don't have Sean's or Liz's numbers handy.

I could only see this one while an admin, so I've re-approved it under "sports" - jm

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Katie Minardo and I got engaged after she completed the Boston Marathon on Monday (I had to pick a time to when she was completely confused and disoriented). We haven't discussed times or places or anything like that, but I'll do my best to conflict with Burch. My apologies to those of you who picked Sperl to win the latest poll...

Since we'll see most of you this weekend, I figured it was ok to post here and wait to see everyone in person. Please forgive the lack of personal phone calls. - JT

Carnival Transportation Plans Tue Apr 17 2007

In order to kick off the annual futile process of trying to keep track of everything and everyone at Carnival, please post your Airport arrival times and travel plans in this thread. Will Imus pay the speeding ticket? Tue Apr 17 2007

More on the Virginia Tech Shootings Wed Apr 18 2007

The Washington Post has added some details about the shooter and his note. Sounds like he was a quiet type without too many friends. Surprise, surprise. It seems that he didn't like "rich kids." Also,

Lucinda Roy, an English professor who taught a creative writing class that Cho attended, was so concerned about Cho that she had warned university police and officials about him, and volunteered to teach him by herself, to spare colleagues.

Why is it that these school shooting sprees are like deadly "Revenge of the Nerds" stories? What's the solution? Mandate being nice to each other (obviously not going to happen)? Would tougher gun laws solve it, or would the gunman just find easy illegal means to make the purchase? Should all students be periodically tested for psychological instability? Or is the risk of being a victim in a school shooting so low still that we shouldn't overract with policies (either by the government or by individual schools)? I have no idea.

What is particularly scary is that each one of these "successful" attacks likely emboldens others. I can only recall hearing about one school shooting plot that didn't end in tragedy. Maybe there have been more, but they don't get any publicity. - decker

If it was anywhere else, I'd assume it was a joke. Wed Apr 18 2007

Fox "News" pisses all over Vonnegut's grave. As if you needed another reason not to watch. And if you don't think it's that bad, watch all the way to the end.

Pittsburgh, The Sunshine State Thu Apr 26 2007

All from Hendrix - Pittsburgh named 'most livable'. There's a decent counter-point in the Post-Gazette. I think it boils down to "Yea, it may be 'easy' to live here by some magic formula, but who the hell wants to?" They need to add a measure along the lines of "Odds of running into an obnoxious yinzer." to help correct this. On a side note, I'd say Madison (#10) and even Lincoln, Nebraska (#?) are much more livable.

How can you knock Pittsburgh by saying "who the hell wants to live there" and then throw Lincoln, NE in as a counter example? - JT

Also, here is the Fark thread, which is chock full of goodness...
